Apply Today to be Considered for Richfield’s Board of Adjustment
The Town is seeking applicants to fill vacancies on the Board of Adjustment. This board plays an important role in the administration of the Town’s zoning ordinance.
The Board of Adjustment is a quasi-judicial body that is called upon when there are questions or disputes related to zoning decisions. Specifically, the Board:
- Hears appeals when a resident or applicant disagrees with a decision made by the zoning enforcement officer
- Reviews requests for variances when strict application of the zoning ordinance would create a hardship due to unique property conditions
- Considers special use and special exception permits for certain types of development that require additional review
- Interprets zoning maps and resolves boundary or ordinance questions
In short, the Board comes into use when an applicant is seeking relief from the ordinance, clarification of how it applies, or a formal review of an administrative decision.
The Board consists of five regular members and two alternate members. Alternates serve in the absence of regular members and have full voting authority when seated. Members of the Board of Adjustment will consist of residents who live inside town limits and the ETJ, with the majority of members being inside town limits. The two alternate members will be one resident from inside town limits and one from the ETJ.
Residents interested in serving are encouraged to apply. This is a great opportunity to contribute to fair and consistent land use decisions in our community.
Please feel free to read through Zoning Article IX for more detailed information about the Board of Adjustment.
